Demand on foreign currency since the start of August slightly exceeds its supply, which influences the hryvnia exchange rate pace, says a posting on the official Web site of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).
"NBU continues carrying out scheduled interventions on the interbank currency market and regular currency auctions to satisfy needs of individuals in paying their debts on banking credits denominated in foreign currency. Since the start of the month, four auctions were carried out and $73.6 million, some CHF 1 million and EUR 278,000 were sold," reads the report.
The central bank said that the hryvnia exchange rate in August on the cash market decreased by 1.64%, to UAH 8.1381/$1.
