Putin's spokesman: Ukraine's accession to Customs Union was not discussed at Tuesday meeting

The Russian and Ukrainian delegations to the 6th session of the interstate commission in Moscow on Tuesday discussed only "the development of mutually beneficial cooperation" and did not address Ukraine's possible accession to the Belarusian-Kazakh-Russian Customs Union, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

In taking questions from journalists, Peskov once again referred to Russian President Vladimir Putin's words that Ukraine's possible Customs Union membership was not brought up at the talks.

In talking about other countries' possible reaction to the Tuesday negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv, Peskov said, "Unlike other countries, our representatives do not speak at the Maidan [Independence Square in Kyiv as the venue of an opposition demonstration], do not put forward any demands, and do not explain their positions. We favor the development of mutually beneficial cooperation, and it is our principled position not to interfere in Ukraine's affairs."
