The Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine jointly with the State Veterinary and Biosecurity Service have initiated a ban on importing to Ukraine of animal products for personal use without producers' original packaging.
"Because African swine fever is breaking out in Russia ever closer to our borders, it is necessary to work out tougher measures to prevent the entry of the disease to Ukraine," the ministry's press service said, citing minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk.
According to him, currently the text of a relevant draft resolution is being prepared, which includes changes to the Customs Code of the country concerning imports of animal products.
The ministry said measures to prevent the disease from entering Ukraine should be strengthened during the tourist season.
