Kyiv-based Energy Studies Center has said that it is possible that National JSC Naftogaz Ukrainy could fail to may payments to Russia's Gazprom for gas delivered in May.
"The gap between the price of imported gas ($650 million) and the earnings of Naftogaz Ukrainy from the domestic market ($350 million) for May would be around $300 million," reads a report of the center.
The report says that by May 25 Naftogaz had imported 1.8 billion cubic meters of gas since the start of the month, which means imports for May can be estimated at 2.3-2.5 billion cubic meters, worth $625-675 million.
Gas consumption by Ukrainian consumers from May 1 to May 25 was tentatively estimated at 1.55 billion cubic meters, and it is forecasted that in May it would be 2-2.1 billion cubic meters.
