The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at a meeting on Wednesday decided to open a checkpoint through the state border at Cherkasy Airport, Transport and Communications Minister Yosyp Vinsky has told journalists.
Cherkasy Airport reopened in 2007 after a long period of closure. The airport has a runway with a length of 2,500 meters, which allows it to accept aircraft with a maximum flight weight of 190 tonnes, including Il-12, Il-18, Il-76, Tu-134, Tu-154, Yak-42, An-2, and An-22 planes.
In late March 2007, the airport received a certificate recognizing that it can receive planes. In October 2007, the region's authorities asked Ukraine's government to assign Cherkasy Airport the status of an international airport.
