The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) in February sold $223.3 million more than it bought on the interbank currency market, which is almost two times more than in February 2012 ($113.5 million), reads a posting on the NBU's Web site.
According to the report, in February 2013 the central bank bought currency worth $363.4 million on the interbank, which is 14 times up on the previous month. However, it sold currency worth $586.7 million, which is 82% up on January 2013.
In January-February the central bank's intervention balance fell to $519.7 million from $1.007 billion year-over-year.
The volume of transactions with cashless foreign currency on the interbank market (purchase and sale in the dollar equivalent, taking into account transactions of the State Treasury Service of Ukraine) in February 2013 came to $40.716 billion, which is 4.2% up on the previous month, according to the NBU.
