Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute has become the first higher education institution in Ukraine to connect to the National Bank of Ukraine's (NBU) BankID System on a noncommercial basis, the regulator said in a statement.
"We have resolved this issue jointly with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and now other state educational institutions will also be able to modernize their digital services quickly and without unnecessary financial costs," NBU Payment Systems and Innovation Development Department Deputy Director Olha Vasylieva said.
Students, applicants and university employees will be able to use BankID to authenticate themselves when accessing the university's electronic services, the statement said.
The NBU provided for the possibility of free connection of state educational institutions to BankID and their receipt of users' identification data through amendments to the regulation governing the system, which took effect on Jan. 10, 2026.
As reported, as of July 1, 2026, the BankID System had 37 subscriber-identifiers and 117 subscribers that provide services (102 commercial and 15 noncommercial).
