Mykolaiv region in talks to produce equipment for wind and solar power plants – Kim
Vitaliy Kim, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, has announced negotiations regarding the deployment of production facilities for green energy equipment within the region.
In an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine, Kim noted that the Mykolaiv region possesses inherent advantages in wind and solar energy, receiving approximately 22% more sunlight than the national average. The administration is currently in talks with business representatives who could potentially establish manufacturing for wind and solar power plant equipment in the area.
Kim specifically mentioned discussions with representatives from the Danish company Vestas, noting that the logistics of delivering turbines can account for 30-40% of their total cost. He suggested that localized production closer to the consumer is economically justified, following the Danish model of placing manufacturing directly in ports to reduce logistical expenses.
The head of the regional administration also revealed plans to create Ukraine’s largest industrial park, covering up to 250 hectares. Preliminary agreements suggest that Astrobuild, a company with experience managing industrial parks in Ukraine, may serve as the operator.
While acknowledging that major investors are unlikely to enter before the war concludes, Kim expressed ambition to create conditions in the south that foster business development. He noted that state incentives for industrial park infrastructure are available and that negotiations are ongoing with domestic enterprises interested in starting operations at the site.
