In 2026, Forests of Ukraine will maintain forest crops on 107,000 hectares, upgrade 200 units of equipment

The State Enterprise Forests of Ukraine has begun the forest maintenance season and plans to carry out work on an area of 107,000 hectares by 2026, the company's press service reported on its Facebook page.

The state-owned enterprise noted that the spring afforestation campaign is now nearing completion: forests have been planted on an area of over 11,000 hectares, representing 95% of the planned area, using over 70 million seedlings.

"Planting a forest is just the first step. Maintenance continues throughout the growing season, on average three to four times a year in one area. Work was started earliest in the Southern, Eastern, Central, Podilsky, and Slobozhansky branches, where foresters have already treated over 500 hectares," explained Forests of Ukraine.

In 2026, the state-owned enterprise plans to focus on process mechanization: over 80% of work is performed using specialized equipment (cultivators, mulchers, and disc harrows). This allows for faster inter-row cultivation to loosen the soil and eliminate weeds, which is critical for the survival of young trees.

"To complete these tasks on time, the company is gradually upgrading its equipment fleet. Within a year, the State Enterprise Forests of Ukraine plans to replace over 200 units of outdated equipment," the press service added.

The State Enterprise Forests of Ukraine is one of the largest forest managers in Europe. The company is responsible for the conservation, protection, sustainable use, and restoration of the country's forest resources.

As reported, the State Enterprise Forests of Ukraine will implement a large-scale investment program worth UAH 4.1 billion in 2026. The program envisions replacing Soviet equipment from the 1980s and 1990s with modern European-style machines. Specifically, by mid-summer 2026, the Carpathian branch will receive 11 modern Slovak-made skidders for use in mountainous conditions. In total, the company plans to purchase over 200 units of specialized equipment this year, including harvesters and energy-efficient tractors for reforestation.
