Zelenskyy: Capital repair of Chornobyl sarcophagus requires about EUR 500 mln
About EUR 500 million is needed for the capital repair of the Chornobyl NPP sarcophagus, which was damaged as a result of a Russian UAV attack, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced.
"Our National Guard, as well as our armed forces, of course, I told them what they have to do (repair it – IF-U) as quickly as possible. And we did it. Yes, but we need to conduct a capital repair... Of course, for this we need about EUR 500 million," Zelenskyy said in an interview with Newsmax.
The president noted that these necessary funds can only be found from other partners.
As reported, the Russian drone attack on the confinement of the 4th power block of the Chornobyl NPP in 2026 was likely intentional, as evidenced by forensic examinations of the circumstances of the enemy drone strike, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko said in an interview with Reuters.
