Ukrnafta explores 1,211 square km of areas over two years, refining geological models for efficient drilling

JSC Ukrnafta is using 3D seismic survey results to improve the accuracy of geological decisions and drilling efficiency, the company announced on Tuesday.

"The total area of research over the past two years has reached 1,211 square kilometers: 582 square kilometers in 2024 (including Ukraine's first wireless seismic survey) and 629 square kilometers in 2025," the society noted.

According to Bohdan Kukura, Chairman of the Board of JSC Ukrnafta, work has been completed at nine fields and two sites.

"The data obtained has already been integrated into geological models and drilling programs. Thanks to the team for their systematic work and high-quality implementation of modern technologies in geological exploration," he noted.

As explained by Ukrnafta, based on the results of the completed stages of processing and interpretation of 3D seismic survey data at three fields and one area, geological models were refined, and new promising areas and blocks were identified for drilling new wells.

In addition, based on the updated geological and hydrodynamic model, the placement of new design wells at one of the fields was adjusted.

"One of the planned wells has already been drilled and commissioned with a high flow rate. Three more wells are planned for drilling here by the end of 2026, and two more in 2027," the company added.

Drilling an exploratory well is also planned at another field.

"This approach allows for decision-making based on more accurate data, reduces geological risks, and improves the efficiency of production investments," Ukrnafta concluded.

JSC Ukrnafta is Ukraine's largest oil producing company and the operator of the nation's largest network of filling stations, UKRNAFTA.

The shareholders of JSC Ukrnafta are Naftogaz Ukrainy and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Since 2022, the company has been under state control and is implementing a large-scale business transformation.

The company operates over 1,106 oil and 131 gas wells.

UKRNAFTA is the largest network of petrol stations in Ukraine, comprising nearly 700 stations and ranking among the top three in terms of fuel sales. The UKRNAFTA brand consolidates networks previously operating under the Glusco, Shell, and U.Go brands.
