Kyivstar to reappoint former U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo, ex-Microsoft Ukraine head Shymkiv as directors

Ukraine’s largest telecommunications operator Kyivstar plans at its annual general meeting on May 12 to reappoint all 10 members of its board of directors for a new term, including former U.S. Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo and former CEO of Microsoft Ukraine (2007–2014) and former Deputy Head of Ukraine’s Presidential Administration (2014–2018) Dmytro Shymkiv, the company said.

According to the release, Kyivstar also intends to reapprove as board members Serdar Çetin, Betsy Z. Cohen, Augie K. Fabela II, former leader of the UK Conservative Party Sir Brandon Lewis, Burak Özer, LetterOne legal counsel Duncan Perry, former KPMG top executive Michiel Soeting, and Chairman of the Board Kaan Terzioğlu.

"Kyivstar delivered a strong performance in 2025, validating our strategy and supporting Board continuity. Our NASDAQ listing underscored the strength of our Ukrainian business. Digital revenues grew more than sixfold year-on-year to 15.7% of Q4 revenue, while our SpaceX partnership is advancing next-generation connectivity," Terzioğlu was quoted as saying in the release.

In addition to electing board members, the agenda of the general meeting includes the appointment of UHY LLP as the company’s auditor.

During the annual general meeting, it will also be proposed to amend the charter to streamline the remuneration determination process by placing authority directly with the Remuneration Committee.

As reported, Kyivstar Group increased EBITDA by 30% in 2025 to UAH 27 billion, with revenue rising by 30.3% to UAH 48.2 billion. In the fourth quarter alone, EBITDA grew by 23.1% to UAH 7.2 billion, while revenue increased by 30.1% to UAH 13.5 billion.

As of the end of 2025, Kyivstar served about 22.4 million mobile subscribers and more than 1.2 million fixed-line customers.
