Ukraine expects Germany to transfer gas turbine from Nord Stream for repair of Kryvy Rih CHP plant – minister
Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal, during a meeting with Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche on April 14, raised the issue of transferring a 38 MW gas turbine unit linked to the Nord Stream infrastructure for use by Ukrnafta in repairing the Kryvy Rih combined heat and power plant.
"This would be an important political decision. I am grateful to our German colleagues, who are already working on this issue," Shmyhal wrote on Telegram on the evening of April 14.
According to him, the parties also agreed to strengthen cooperation on procuring the necessary equipment to restore energy infrastructure and build reserves ahead of the 2026/2027 heating season.
"In particular, this concerns the use of equipment from decommissioned energy facilities in Germany," the official added.
As reported, First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal had earlier proposed that Germany establish a joint mechanism to create a strategic reserve of energy equipment for Ukraine with the participation of Germany and other partners.
"This refers to pre-positioned stocks of critical components ready for rapid deployment in the event of large-scale damage," he wrote on Telegram following a plenary session of the Ukrainian-German intergovernmental consultations chaired by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz on April 14.
