About 12% of Ukrainians order food delivery at least once a week
In Ukraine, 12% of people aged 18-65 order food delivery at least once a week, and 28% of those who use delivery do so through mobile applications, according to a study by the online service Bolt Food.
According to the results, 89% of Ukrainians are ready to choose the same dish if they like its taste.
"Among the interesting preferences: if Ukrainians could eat only one dish constantly, they would most often choose steak. Following in popularity are salads and sushi," the study says.
When choosing a delivery application, users pay attention to several factors; in particular, for 54%, discounts and promotions are decisive, 45% focus on the overall price level, and 42% on delivery speed.
Most users have one or two verified food ordering applications on their smartphones.
Among other data, for 66% of respondents, breakfast is a constant habit, while about a fifth of those surveyed most often have quick meals at this time.
Overall, cooking at home in Ukraine remains primarily the responsibility of women. In particular, 72% of Ukrainian women surveyed noted that they cook most often. At the same time, 68% of men replied that they either share these duties with someone or are not involved in the process at all.
Among the main reasons for cooking at home, respondents cite affordability and health care. Thus, 45% consider homemade food healthier, and 41% find it more affordable.
The study emphasizes that most Ukrainians prefer offline shopping, but 23% choose online grocery delivery. In addition, 96% of respondents noted that the most common habit is buying groceries once a week.
For 39% of Ukrainians, visiting restaurants or cafes is most often a way to create a small celebration, while another 35% choose this option for speed and convenience, and for 21%, it is an opportunity to try new cuisine and dishes.
A higher level of eating out is observed among young people: in particular, 53% of Ukrainians aged 18-29 noted they would eat this way every day if they had the opportunity.
The places where Ukrainians eat most often at least once a week are cafes and coffee shops near work. Pizzerias and food courts in shopping centers are also among the top three most popular establishments.
"Food habits and people’s choices reflect a balance between practicality, pleasure, and the need for communication. They cook at home mainly due to affordability and health concerns; they eat out as a way to treat themselves or for convenience; and they order delivery as a shared experience with family or loved ones," the report quotes Viacheslav Levchenko, General Manager of Bolt Food in Ukraine.
The survey was conducted by Ipsos using the online interview method via the Ipsos digital platform. In Ukraine, the study is based on a representative sample of 1,000 respondents aged 18-65, reflecting the population structure by gender, age, and region.
