Scrap metal exports fall by 88.5% in 3 months following introduction of zero rate on export of strategic raw materials
In January-March of this year, Ukrainian enterprises reduced exports of ferrous scrap metal by 88.5% compared to the same period last year – to 9,309 tonnes from 80,888 tonnes.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), there were no exports in February-March, while 9,309 tonnes were exported in January and a record 68,520 tonnes of scrap metal were exported in December 2025.
In monetary terms, scrap metal exports for January-March decreased by 88.8% – to $2.7 million from $24.3 million.
Scrap metal exports in January-March 2026 were formally carried out primarily to Bulgaria (60.88% of deliveries in monetary terms), Greece (38.94%) and Germany (0.18%).
At the same time, Ukraine imported 22 tonnes of scrap metal worth $6,000 from Moldova during this period (all imports were carried out in January), while in January-March 2025 it imported 25 tonnes of scrap metal worth $8,000.
