Chernivtsi to purchase 34 new trolleybuses using EIB funding from Chernihiv Automobile Plant, Politechnoservice

The public utility of Chernivtsi Trolleybus Authority, LLC Chernihiv Automobile Plant (Etalon Corporation), and LLC Politechnoservice (Brovary, Kyiv region) signed a contract for the supply of 34 new low-floor trolleybuses following a tender with financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB).

"The city will acquire 34 new low-floor trolleybuses. Today, we took another step toward modernizing city transportation – a contract was signed between the Chernivtsi Trolleybus Authority and the Chernihiv Automobile Plant and Politechnoservice companies for their delivery," Chernivtsi Mayor Roman Klychuk wrote on Facebook.

He added that this is the result of lengthy preparation: an international tender, inspections, and approval from the EIB.

"The new trolleybuses mean fewer worn-out vehicles on the routes, more reliable service, comfortable conditions for passengers, and a lower environmental impact. Thanks to the European Investment Bank team and everyone who worked on this agreement," Klychuk wrote.

In the comments to the post, he added that the delivery of the first batch of trolleybuses is planned for the end of this year.

As reported, a tender for the supply of 11.9-12.7 m long trolleybuses with an autonomous range of up to 1 km, as well as spare parts, equipment and tools for maintenance and repair, and related services, was announced in July of last year.

According to the regulations, the trolleybus must accommodate at least 105 passengers, including 30 (plus or minus 10%) seats. The interior must have one seat for a passenger in a wheelchair, one for a stroller (which can be combined with the wheelchair space), and four seats for passengers with limited mobility who do not use a wheelchair.

As reported, Chernivtsi planned to purchase approximately 30 trolleybuses as part of the project, depending on the price.

According to local media, the total cost of the city's trolleybus infrastructure upgrade project is up to EUR 16.3 million, of which over EUR 13 million is an EIB loan and EUR 2.7 million is to be allocated from the city budget. Approximately EUR 11.5 million is planned for the purchase of trolleybuses, and approximately EUR 1.6 million for the construction of the trolleybus line.

LLC Politechnoservice specializes in the production of its own electric transport control system and also produces PTS trolleybuses using Turkish Akia bodies. Chernivtsi has already purchased these trolleybuses several times, including 10 units in 2022-2023, three in 2025, and a contract for three more signed in December of last year.

The Chernihiv Automobile Plant produces buses of various classes, as well as trolleybuses, which are already in service, in particular, in Chernihiv, Sumy, and Khmelnytskyi.
