Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers has expanded state support for aquaculture producers to cover the entire territory of the country, the press service of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture reported.

According to amendments to Resolution No. 1409 dated December 10, 2024, the mechanism for compensating expenses related to breeding, maintenance, and cultivation of freshwater fish is now available to aquaculture enterprises in all regions of Ukraine. Previously, support of up to 30% was provided only to farms in frontline and affected areas. Now, compensation of up to 20% of costs will apply nationwide.

The government also clarified provisions regarding the age groups of fish stocking material eligible for financial support. The areas of support remain unchanged: partial reimbursement of the cost of growing fish stock for further sale and compensation of expenses for purchasing stock for restocking water bodies.

"Expanding state support for aquaculture will allow enterprises to restore production cycles, increase output, and invest in development. Special emphasis is placed on supporting farms in affected regions, where recovery requires additional resources. This decision will also help reduce import dependence and strengthen Ukraine’s food security," Deputy Minister Taras Vysotsky said.

The ministry said that both legal entities and individual entrepreneurs for whom fish farming is the main economic activity are eligible for reimbursement. Applications are submitted through the State Agrarian Register by November 1. After review by regional commissions, consolidated data will be forwarded to the Ministry of Economy for further financing.

The government expects that these measures will contribute to the development of aquaculture, increase the sector’s investment attractiveness, and ensure stable supplies of fish products to the domestic market.
