RSE Group Ukraine increases cogeneration production amid distributed generation development in Ukraine

RSE Group Ukraine, amid the ongoing development of decentralized generation in Ukraine, plans to reach production of more than 400 modular units per year by the end of 2026, the company reported.

"RSE Group Ukraine already has experience implementing distributed generation projects in Ukraine and Europe with a total capacity of more than 900 MW and is increasing production of modular solutions to more than 400 modules per year," the company said in a comment to Energy Reform on Thursday.

The company explained that these include cogeneration units that allow simultaneous production of electrical and thermal energy directly at the point of consumption. It noted that such solutions can be used for business and industry as well as for providing hospitals, heating systems and other critical infrastructure facilities.

"In preparing for winter, the key role is played not only by the volume of generation, but by its distribution. Decentralized solutions reduce the risks of large-scale blackouts and ensure continuity of critical infrastructure operations," RSE Group Ukraine Director Hanna Pozdniakova said in a comment.

According to her, the Ukrainian market is already demonstrating the ability to rapidly scale such solutions. Cogeneration equipment manufacturers are increasing production capacities and can produce dozens of modules per month, which makes it possible to speak about the realism of the state's stated plans for distributed generation development.

Thus, preparation for the next winter in Ukraine is gradually transforming into a transition to a more flexible, autonomous and resilient energy model, the company believes.

As reported, First Deputy Prime Minister – Energy Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a speech in the Verkhovna Rada on March 13 stated that Ukraine plans to launch another 1.5 GW of distributed generation capacity by the end of 2026 in addition to the 1.5 GW commissioned since the beginning of the full-scale war.
