It is necessary to act quickly to protect Ukraine’s energy system and rebuild what Russia has destroyed, at least EUR 5 billion in funding is needed now to ensure energy resilience for next winter within the EUR 90 billion package, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

"We must act quickly to protect our energy system and rebuild what Russia has destroyed. Time matters. This work must begin now. Therefore, funding is needed now – at least 5 billion to ensure energy resilience for next winter within the 90 billion package," he said in an address to European Council participants Thursday.

Zelenskyy noted that rebuilding homes, preserving logistics and supporting Ukrainians’ daily lives cannot be postponed to an indefinite "later."

In addition, according to the president, European manufacturers are also waiting for Ukraine to settle contracts.

"This is about your jobs and your technological development. So this 90 billion package will truly work for Europe’s benefit, because in modern Europe no one stands alone – we are all closely interconnected. And if something is blocked for us, it will have consequences for everyone – perhaps not always obvious, but certainly felt," he emphasized.
