Ukrnafta creates full cycle of packer services for wells
JSC Ukrnafta has developed a full cycle of in-house packer services for well operations, allowing it to perform key operations in-house and independently control quality and deadlines, the company announced on Wednesday.
"A turnkey packer service has been created at the Oil Industry Services Department – from equipment procurement and engineering design to installation of tools directly in wells," noted Bohdan Kukura, Chairman of the Board of Ukrnafta.
A packer is installed in a well to isolate formations (layers of rock containing oil or gas) and control fluid flows, which ensures control of production and injection modes.
As the company explained, some of these services were previously performed by external contractors, but now Oil Industry Services Department provides a full range of services using its own resources.
Ukrnafta, in particular, has established service hubs in Poltava and Ivano-Frankivsk, built its own fleet of over 110 pieces of equipment, implemented electronic accounting, and developed internal calculation software – the Packerman Calculator.
A separate area is autonomous single- and dual-packer assemblies, which allow for the simultaneous isolation of several zones in a well and more precise control of fluid production or injection.
"The result is reduced dependence on external services, cost optimization, increased reliability, and the development of in-house deep service expertise," the company concluded.
JSC Ukrnafta is Ukraine's largest oil producing company and the operator of the nation's largest network of filling stations, UKRNAFTA. The company operates 1,807 oil and 164 gas producing wells.
In 2024, the company assumed management of Glusco's assets. In 2025, it completed a deal with Shell Overseas Investments BV to acquire the Shell network in Ukraine. The company operates a total of 663 filling stations.
The company is implementing a comprehensive program to restore operations and update the format of its network of gas stations. Since February 2023, it has been issuing its own fuel coupons and cards, NAFTAKarta, which it sells to businesses and individuals through Ukrnafta-Postach LLC.
Ukrnafta's largest shareholder is Naftogaz Ukrainy, with a 50% stake plus one share. In November 2022, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine decided to transfer to the state the company's shareholding, which was previously privately owned and is currently managed by the Ministry of Defense.
