The issue of Russia’s shadow fleet in European waters is a matter for the European Union and Europe as a whole, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in an interview with The Independent.
"We’re talking about domestic legislation—amendments to laws that will allow for the confiscation of Russian oil after sanctioned tankers are stopped. This will prevent them from being released three to five days after a court ruling. In most cases, they lose almost nothing—just a little—because they’re stopped for a few days. That’s precisely why confiscation is necessary," the president emphasized.
He added that he does not want to make money on Russian oil, but he cannot allow Russia to make money on it.
"We don’t need Russian oil, and we don’t want to make money on it. But we don’t want the Russians to make money, because they’ll use that income to wage war—on the battlefield against us," the president declared.
