Ukraine aims to triple energy equipment reserves – Shmyhal
Ukraine aims to create a threefold reserve of energy equipment to replace components destroyed during the 2025/2026 winter season, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal has said.
"We are working with partners not only to purchase equipment and wait six to nine months for it to be manufactured but also to create an appropriate threefold reserve. We have set this standard for ourselves—a triple stock of the equipment that was destroyed this winter," Shmyhal said during a briefing following Tuesday’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) meeting on the Comprehensive Resilience Plan for Ukrainian cities and regions.
According to him, the reserve equipment will be stored both within Ukraine and abroad. Shmyhal added that, given Ukraine’s experience, Europe now understands that an equipment reserve must also be established for European countries.
"Therefore, this is one of the directions that will be raised at the next Energy Ramstein. This includes equipment production, faster procurement procedures—preferably through direct purchases, similar to weapons—and, accordingly, the creation of a reserve," the Energy Minister noted.
