Hungarian MOL receives 35,000 tons of Ukrainian oil via the Druzhba pipeline at Kyiv's request in late January – media

Hungary’s MOL accepted approximately 35,000 tons of Ukrainian oil through the Druzhba pipeline at the request of Kyiv following shelling that triggered a fire near the pipeline, Reuters reports.

"The pipeline itself did not sustain any damage. (...) Our Ukrainian colleagues reached out to us after the fire started with a request to accept this oil to prevent problems and the further spread of the fire. We accepted and purchased 35,000 tons of Ukrainian oil, which arrived over the course of two to three days," the report quotes MOL CEO Zsolt Hernádi as saying during a broadcast on the ATV television channel.

Russian oil supplies via Druzhba to Hungary and Slovakia have been suspended since January 27. Ukraine explains this as being due to damage from Russian shelling and the necessity for repairs, which are being delayed by ongoing attacks. Meanwhile, the leaders of Slovakia and Hungary have accused Kyiv of having political motives for stopping the supplies.
