Kenya receives first 2,600-tonne shipment of food under Grain from Ukraine initiative
The first shipment of Ukrainian food products, totaling 2,618 tonnes, has arrived at the port of Port of Mombasa under the humanitarian initiative of the President of Ukraine, Grain from Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported on its website.
According to the ministry, the total volume of this consignment exceeds 3,600 tonnes. The cargo was delivered in coordination with the World Food Programme (WFP), which will ensure its distribution among vulnerable populations, in particular refugees in the Dadaab and Kakuma camps.
The project was implemented with financial support from Slovenia and Austria. The official handover ceremony was attended by Ukraine’s Ambassador to Kenya Yuriy Tokar, Slovenia’s Ambassador Kristina Radej, and representatives of the WFP.
The humanitarian Food from Ukraine (Grain from Ukraine) program was launched by the President of Ukraine in November 2022 to supply food to the poorest countries in Africa and Asia. As of early 2026, more than 30 countries and international organizations have joined the initiative, collectively raising over $220 million to purchase Ukrainian agricultural products. Shipments are dispatched through the ports of Greater Odesa and the Danube cluster in coordination with the WFP.
Since the initiative began, more than 30 vessels have delivered around 250,000 tonnes of wheat, corn, and oil to countries on the brink of famine, including Ethiopia, Somalia, Yemen, Sudan, and Nigeria. In 2025–2026, the program’s geography was expanded to include countries in Latin America.
