On the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Canada is imposing additional sanctions against individuals associated with Russia, the press service of the Canadian government said.

"Furthermore, Canada will be imposing sanctions on 21 individuals and 53 entities, as well as 100 vessels from Russia's shadow fleet, under the Special Economic Measures (Russia) Regulations. Canada is also lowering its price cap for Russian crude oil from US$47.60 to US$44.10 per barrel," the Canadian government said.

It is noted that Canada's new measures further increase the economic costs to Russia of its invasion of Ukraine by limiting its energy revenues and financial capabilities, including cryptocurrency infrastructure, while weakening Russia's conventional and hybrid military capabilities, including its artificial intelligence ecosystem and drone production.

"As Russia's brutal war of aggression against Ukraine continues, Canada remains steadfast in defending Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Russia must be held accountable for the damage, destruction, and loss caused by its unprovoked aggression," Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said.
