Zaporizhiaoblenergo accelerates power restoration through in-house transformer production – CEO

JSC Zaporizhiaoblenergo has become the first distribution system operator (DSO, regional power utility) in Ukraine to establish in-house production of new transformers, enabling the company to significantly speed up the restoration of electricity supply following enemy shelling.

The company reported this on Thursday via its Telegram channel, citing Zaporizhiaoblenergo CEO Andriy Stasevsky.

"A transformer is the ‘heart’ of many energy facilities, from small transformer substations to powerful high-voltage substations. Against the backdrop of daily shelling of our region’s energy infrastructure, we cannot rely solely on assistance from foreign partners and procurement purchases, because it is impossible to predict with day-level precision when exactly these events will occur," he said.

According to the CEO, in 2025 the company was the first among domestic DSOs to launch large-unit assembly of new transformers using its own resources.

"It was a difficult step, Zaporizhiaoblenergo effectively started from scratch, developing technological process maps and operational and design documentation," the company explained.

In addition, to implement the project, it had to restore and modernize workshop facilities and equipment in order to establish a proper production base.

"Over this period, the company has managed to manufacture 16 power transformers of various capacities. We were pioneers in this process," Stasevsky said.

According to him, the company effectively developed a comprehensive technology for large-unit assembly of new transformers tailored specifically to its own production capacities and capabilities, as well as their modernization, which significantly enhances the quality and reliability of equipment manufactured by industrial producers.

"Thanks to this, we are now restoring electricity supply as quickly as possible — sometimes within 24 hours instead of a week — because we have equipment reserves produced in-house. The process continues non-stop, with several dozen more units currently in production," the company’s head concluded.
