KPI, RSE company introduce new engineering school for cogeneration development in Ukraine
Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and RSE company, specializing in the implementation of energy projects based on cogeneration plants, introduce an educational discipline on cogeneration, integrated into the educational program for training power engineers.
"The program was developed in partnership with engineering company RSE and will be implemented at the Energy Resilience Lab, a laboratory for autonomous and sustainable energy supply," RSE said in a Facebook post.
The company said it views cogeneration not only as an anti-crisis solution but as one of the basic components of Ukraine’s future energy system, which is why the training program is being introduced and will start next semester.
"RSE is the key industrial partner of the program and is responsible for its practical component. The course logic, list of competencies and training format were formed based on the company’s real experience implementing cogeneration solutions for communities, critical infrastructure facilities and industrial sites," the company said.
RSE explained that the program is synchronized with the engineering standards the industry operates under today and is focused on training specialists ready for practical work immediately after completing their studies.
RSE said this is a full-fledged training course that is part of the approved educational program of the Institute of Atomic and Thermal Energy at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and will be taught within the main curriculum.
In addition, KPI instructors involved in the course completed specialized training at the European training center of engine manufacturer MWM, which allowed the academic discipline to be integrated with modern industry engineering standards, the company said.
"This is not just a separate educational project, but the formation of a new engineering school that will become the foundation for developing cogeneration as a strategic component of Ukraine’s energy resilience," RSE said.
As previously reported, citing Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, on January 29 Ukraine received the first shipment of energy equipment from the German government as part of a winter emergency support package increased to EUR 120 million. The equipment included cogeneration units from RSE.
RSE s.r.o. is a company in the energy sector with headquarters in Brno, Czech Republic, that specializes in developing, manufacturing and implementing modular cogeneration solutions based on MWM gas engines. It was founded by Andriy Hrinenko, who is also co-owner of Ukrainian company Clear Energy, which works in bioenergy, among other areas. In late 2025, Hrinenko said RSE had already implemented projects totaling 900 megawatts, a significant portion of which were in Ukraine, where it has more than 150 clients.
