As of July 4, 2012, Ukraine has harvested over three million tonnes of early grain and leguminous crops, Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov has said.
"We've threshed over three million tonnes of early grain and leguminous crops. The main thing is that the harvesting campaign is proceeding smoothly," he said opening a cabinet meeting in Kyiv on Wednesday.
He said that farmers have the financial resources, lubricants, fuel and machinery they need to carry out the harvesting campaign.
The premier said that market experts anticipate that the grain harvest in Ukraine this year will reach over 46-47 million tonnes.
"[The harvest] will be big enough to provide for domestic needs, guarantee food security, the stability of bread prices, free exports of grain and, importantly, to continue our plans to develop cattle breeding," Azarov said.
He said that due to unfavorable weather, some regions lost a large amount of wheat. He said that Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions had been affected most of all.
