Tourist flow to Ukraine hits 300,000 people a day since Euro 2012 start, says minister

The number of tourists coming to Ukraine during the Euro 2012 European Football Championship 2012 has increased by 90,000 tourists a day compared to the same period last year.

Before Euro 2012, an average of 200,000-210,000 people came to Ukraine daily, and since the start of the tournament this figure has increased to 300,000, the press service of the Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry reported, with reference to the ministry's head, Borys Kolesnikov.

According to Kolesnikov, more tourists are expected to attend the matches of the second round of the group stage of Euro 2012.

"All the airports have registered an increase in the number of applications for receiving charter flights after the first round," the minister said.

Kolesnikov also noted that over the first four days of championship the flow of cars crossing the Ukrainian border had increased by 55,000-60,000 a day.

As reported, Kolesnikov said that Ukraine spent a total of $5.5 billion on the preparations for the championship.
