This is the first medal of Ukraine at the Olympics in Pyeongchang. In addition, Abramenko became the first man to win a gold medal at the Winter Olympic Games in the history of independent Ukraine. Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Igor Zhdanov announced the signing of an order to pay a $125 thousand reward to Ukrainian athlete Alexander Abramenko, who won a gold medal in freestyle at the XXIII Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Earlier, a Ukrainian businessman Pavel Fuks stated that he had decided to finance for his personal funds the payment of additional $50,000 for Olympic gold, $25,000 – for silver, $15,000 – for bronze. "According to the previously announced motivation program for athletes who stand for Ukraine in Pyeongchang, Olexandr Abramenko and his coach Enver Ablaev will receive from me $50,000 each. I am proud together with whole Ukraine!" - wrote a businessman in Telegram.
