Ukraine bought UAH 20 mln worth of equipment in 2017 to prepare athletes for 2018 Olympics

Ukrainian Youth and Sports Minister Ihor Zhdanov has said that in 2017, Ukraine purchased UAH 20 million worth of equipment to prepare athletes for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

"In order to avoid speculation, which we unfortunately hear from many journalists and commentators of the Winter Olympic Games, I publish a list of equipment and outfit that was purchased for our winter sportsmen in 2017 alone in preparation for PyeongChang 2018. In general, taking into account all purchases, it's about 20 million hryvnias," he wrote on his Facebook page on Monday, February 12.

According to Zhdanov, Ukraine purchased 12 German biathlon rifles worth UAH 199,000 each, as well as sunglasses, winter and summer sleds, training and racing suits.

"I emphasize once again that practically everything that the coaching staff of the national team ordered to prepare our athletes for the Winter Olympic Games 2018 was purchased in the required quantities at the expense of taxpayers," Zhdanov said.

Earlier, Zhdanov said that even one medal would be success for Ukraine's national team at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
