Shakhtar Donetsk wins 1:0 away at Anderlecht

Eduardo's stoppage-time goal earned Shakhtar Donetsk a 1:0 second-leg win to round off a comfortable progression past Anderlecht to the Europa League quarterfinals.

The away side won 4:1 on aggregate following first-leg goals from Taison, Oleksandr Kucher and Eduardo and the former Croatia international's late strike in Belgium.

Both sides finished with 10 men as Kucher for Shakhtar and Kara Mbodji for Anderlecht were sent off within two minutes of each other as tempers flared in the closing stages.

Anderlecht could not build on the away goal they picked up last week as they failed to get a single shot on target in the second leg.

Shakhtar took a defensive stance from the first whistle and the home side struggled to get the ball into attacking areas.

After a quiet first half, last week's goal scorer Kucher was sent off for the travelling side after 84 minutes after he received his second yellow card of the match.

Anderlecht could not make the most of the extra man as just two minutes later Mbodji received a controversial straight red card for violent conduct.

The travelling side finally found the back of the net in the fourth minute of added time when Eduardo's right-footed shot found the bottom right-hand corner.

Thursday's game was Shakhtar's 200th European match and the late goal secured their place in the quarter-finals as the struggling home side failed to make an impact on the night.
