Dnipro defeat of Shakhtar gives Dynamo boost in Ukrainian football championship

Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk on March 13 defeated Shakhtar Donetsk 4-1 score in 18th round match of the Ukrainian Football Championship.

Dnipro striker John Jairo Ruiz opened the score at the 10 minutes into the match. Shakhtar midfielder Maksym Malyshev leveled the score at 23 minutes into the game. Dnipro midfielder Yevhen Shakhov pushed his team ahead at 44 minutes into the first half.

At the beginning of the second half of the game (50'), Dnipro striker Roman Zozulya improved the results of the Dnipropetrovsk team. Dnipro second striker Roman Bezus added the fourth goal of the match with an eleven-meter penalty kick four minutes into overtime.

"Let's be honest: we have had a bad game. Now we need to analyze this defeat and our own mistakes to avoid that in a meeting with Anderlecht," Shakhtar midfielder Wellington Nem said about the game. "We cannot say that we are tired after the match in the Europa League. We had enough time to recover. Of course, the condition of the pitch was poor, but it doesn't justify us in any way. We prepared for the fact that it would be difficult. However, Dnipro played well, and we didn't," he said.

Dynamo Kyiv defeated Karpaty Lviv 2:1 on March 11.

Dynamo remains on top in the Premier League encounter with 49 points, Shakhtar Donetsk follows with 46 points, and Zorya Luhansk ranks third with 38 points, followed by Dnipro (31 points) and Vorskla (28 points).
