Ukrainian travelers sail more than 3,900 nautical miles across Atlantic Ocean on catamaran

KYIV. Jan 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukrainian travelers Olha and Oleksandr Soliarchuk have made their third passage on a sailing catamaran across the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean islands; their journey lasted 52 days.

"On December 1 we flew from Kyiv and returned the night before. Our route was exciting: Kyiv - Amsterdam - the islands of Cape Verde. On the islands of Cape Verde we got aboard of our sailing catamaran and went across the ocean," Oleksandr Soliarchuk said a press conference in Kyiv on Monday.

According to him, they made the first major passage on the route Cape Verde - the Caribbean islands, the first site of the stopping was Saint Lucia. "After that - to Jamaica, then to Cuba, and the United States of America. We looked at New York, and further went from Europe to home," Oleksandr Soliachuk said.

He noted that the total transfer was 3,950 nautical miles, with just 300 liters of diesel consumed for the entire trip.

Ukrainian travelers also shared their plans for 2018. According to them, in May they will travel along Cote d'Azur, then Italy, the Island of Elba and the Pacific, where they plan to explore French Polynesia - Tahiti, Bora-Bora.
