KYIV. Oct 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – MP Serhiy Taruta has initiated the resignation of Head of the National Bank of Ukraine Valeriya Gontareva and the creation of a parliamentary commission to probe her activities.

"Unless staff reshuffles are held among the NBU leadership, the economic situation in the country will worsen. The NBU policy provokes poverty and destroys the economy of Ukraine," former head of Donetsk Regional State Administration, MP Serhiy Taruta said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.

He said that several MPs are now preparing two resolutions for the Verkhovna Rada: an appeal to President Petro Poroshenko with a proposal to dismiss Gontareva and a proposal to set up an ad hoc investigative commission.

The documents should be considered at the current plenary week, Taruta said.

According to him, Gontareva's appointment as NBU governor provoked aggravation of the liquidity crisis, the crisis in banking system and banks insolvency crisis. The NBU leadership stubbornly ignores all requests and complaints regarding her activities from businesses, banks depositors and lawmakers, he added.

Taruta said these documents will be presented in parliament on Tuesday. In his words, these documents tell about the negative impact of the activities of the NBU leadership on Ukraine's economy, and also contain allegations about possible involvement of Gontareva to various corruption schemes.

Earlier the NBU appealed to the Security Service of Ukraine, Prosecutor General's Office and National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine asking to open criminal cases over the spread of provocative materials with accusations against Gontareva.

Batkivschyna leader Yulia Tymoshenko at a conciliatory council of parliament on October 17 demanded the speedy resignation of Gontareva.

In addition, Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Financial Policy and Banking Serhiy Rybalka asked the speaker to put to the vote the initiative of representatives of the Oleh Liashko Radical Party faction to investigate activities of NBU officials in connection with their failure to ensure stability of Ukraine's national currency.
