Law enforcers intentionally don't investigate theft of oil products at Ukrnafta petroleum depot in Chernihiv region – activists

KYIV. Dec 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Representatives of Pryluky town NGO Right for Protection have said law enforcement officials don't respond to information on theft of oil products from Ukrnafta PJSC petroleum storage depot in Chernihiv region that resulted in exchange of gunfire with one of law enforcement officers wounded.

At a press conference hosted by Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday, activists disclosed an address made by the NGO Right for Protection head Yaroslav Siomka, which to chiefs of Pryluky law enforcers, to Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) Chief Vasyl Hrytsak, and Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin.

"On December 28, 2015, an anonymous source said that near Milky, Prylutsky district of Chernihiv region, large amount of oil products was stolen from Ukrnafta PJSC petroleum depot. A criminal gang of around 20 people was acting on the territory of the petroleum depot, law enforcers said […] During the arrest, unidentified criminals opened fire on law enforcers using automatic weapons and also applying physical force. As a result, one of the law enforcers received severe gunshots and is in the intensive care in one of the hospitals of Chernihiv region," the statement says.

On his part, expert of the NGO Committee on Combating Corruption at Government Agencies Kostyantyn Chernenko said that numerous requests to Pryluky officials in the SBU, police, traffic police, Office of the General Prosecutor remained with no explanations over the situation.

"We suspect that law enforcers intentionally avoid transparent and open investigation of this notorious crime," activists said.

They called to conduct an open investigation in order to bring culprits to account.
