KYIV. July 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The action plan to eliminate the consequences of a fire at the BRSM-Nafta oil depot in the village of Kriachky in Vasylkiv district of Kyiv region cannot be developed until a comprehensive assessment of air, soil and groundwater pollution is made.

"We are concerned at the fact that without a comprehensive assessment of the situation on pollution the ministry is already working on a plan of measures to liquidate the consequences," deputy head of the public council under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, president of Living Planet (Zhyva Planeta) national public organization, Svitlana Berzina, said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine.

She said that the assessment of the situation is very slow and no pollution indicators have been announced in a month. In addition, said that the ministry did not include public representatives in the working group to develop the pollution liquidation plan.

Berzina said that environmental organizations in the ministry's public council have established a commission of experts which includes independent representatives of public organizations and experts. Independent foreign inspectorates and laboratories will be involved in its work.
