Kyiv, December 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The NATO issue is becoming relevant for Ukraine again, thus, providing Ukrainians with objective information about the alliance is important, the Director of the NATO Information and Documentation Centre in Ukraine Natalia Nemylivska has stated

"The NATO issue is evidently becoming relevant again, as well as providing objective and truthful information on NATO," Nemylivska said at a press conference on awarding of the winners of the Ukrainian Wikipedia online contest "Writing About NATO" at Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday.

According to Nemylivska, "Writing About NATO" is special, as it was initiated and created by the public. A total of 52 papers were entered as part of the contest. Three people from various regions in Ukraine won the main prize – a study trip to NATO headquarters in Brussels.

The initiator of the contest, expert from the Strategy XX Globalistics Centre Pavlo Lakiychuk, stressed the importance of providing Ukrainians with truthful information on the Alliance, as the debate over joining the west has become relevant once again. "We Ukrainians don't know what NATO is and how to go around it. It's understandable for Russians, who perceive NATO as an enemy, and one doesn't have to know an enemy. The enemy must be scary and dangerous, and then it's easier to fight him. It's understandable for Germans, as [their country] is already a NATO member and they know that the alliance keeps them safe, We, Ukrainians are looking [for security], so it's important to know what we choose," he said.

This is why we decided to hold the contest in partnership with the NATO Information and Documentation Centre in Ukraine, Lakiychuk said.

President of the Ukraine-NATO Civic League Serhiy Dzherdzh added that an information war is currently being waged against Ukraine. "Myths and propaganda are being created. [The information war] against NATO has been ongoing for a long time," he said, whilst noting the importance of the realization of such projects. "We must know more about security matters, as it directly concerns our safety today," he said.
