Poroshenko may win Ukraine presidential elections in first round - poll

Kyiv, April 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Some 48.4% of those who intend to participate in the May 25 presidential elections in Ukraine and have already decided on their candidate are ready to support Ukrainian MP Petro Poroshenko.

The results of a survey "Ukraine. Presidential Elections 2014. April," conducted by the Socis Center for Social and Marketing Research, Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, the Rating Sociological Group and the Razumkov Center, were presented by the Committee of Voters of Ukraine at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday.

According to the survey, Batkivschyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko is in second place in the presidential rating, with 14% of the vote.

MP Sergiy Tigipko is third, with 7.4% ready to vote for him in the presidential elections.

Some 6% of respondents are ready to vote for Regions Party representative Mykhailo Dobkin, 5.6% for Communist Party leader Petro Symonenko, 5% for Civil Position Party leader Anatoliy Hrytsenko, 4.6% for Radical Party leader Oleh Liashko, 3.6% for Olha Bohomolets, 2.1% for Svoboda Party leader Oleh Tiahnybok, 1.1% for MP Oleh Tsariov, 0.9% for Right Sector leader Dmytro Yarosh, and 0.2% for former Social Policy Minister Natalia Korolevska.

Some 38.7% of respondents think that Poroshenko is the most likely winner in the presidential elections, whereas 8.6% named Tymoshenko, 2.5% Tigipko, 1.9% Dobkin, 0.8% Symonenko, 0.5% Hrytsenko, 0.9% Liashko, 0.4% Bohomolets, 0.2% Tiahnybok, 0.3% Tsariov, and 0.2% Yarosh. Nobody believes Korolevska will win.

At the same time, 44.3% of respondents were undecided.

If Poroshenko and Tymoshenko win through to the second round, 49.3% are ready to vote for Poroshenko and 12.5% for Tymoshenko. Some 20.8% of respondents are ready to vote against both candidates, 8.5% do not plan to participate in the second round of the presidential elections, and 8.9% were undecided.

If Poroshenko and Tigipko reach the second round, 54.3% are ready to vote for Poroshenko and 13.5% for Tigipko. Some 14.5% of respondents are ready to vote against both candidates, and 8.1% do not plan to participate in the second round of the presidential elections.

If Poroshenko and Dobkin advance to the second round, 57.5% are ready to vote for Poroshenko and 10.8% for Dobkin. Some 14.6% of respondents are ready to vote against both candidates, 8.1% do not plan to participate in the second round of the presidential elections, and 9% were undecided.

The survey was conducted on April 9-16, 2014 in all regions of Ukraine, excluding Crimea. A total of 6,200 respondents were interviewed. The poll's margin of error does not exceed 0.8%.
