Ukrainian analysts sure authorities will not use force to disperse protesters in Kyiv

Kyiv, November 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The Ukrainian authorities will not resort to force to disperse the rally of supporters of Ukraine's integration with the European Union in Kyiv, in the view of some political analysts interviewed by Interfax-Ukraine.

"There will be no forcible dispersal of the EuroMaidan [the rally on Independent Square in Kyiv]: Ukraine doesn't need Euro-isolation, nor does Viktor Yanukovych need it," Vadym Karasiov, the director of the Institute of Global Strategies, said at a press conference entitled "Ukraine after Vilnius – New Reality in Domestic and Foreign Policy" hosted by Interfax-Ukraine on Friday.

"The situation will be played on this way: there is part of society that is for European integration, there is another part that is for the [Belarusian-Kazakh-Russian] Customs Union, and there is the president, who wants to preserve the country's unity. That is, this is kind of centrist position, he is the arbiter, and the two Maidans will balance each other," he said.

Political analyst Dmytro Vydrin is sure that the rally on Independence Square in fact also plays into the Ukrainian leadership's hand.

"This is a Maidan that supports the authorities, because it demonstrates civic maturity and supports slogans that almost coincide with the leadership's slogans," he said.

Vydrin acknowledged that the fighters involved in recent riots near the Cabinet of Ministers building were equipped with knives and tear gas.

"I think these people should be stopped," Vydrin said, adding that such incidents might lead to grave consequences, as unprepared people, including those with children, may be involved in them.

Vydrin said he is sure there will be no clashes between the participants in the two different rallies in Kyiv. "I think there will be fraternization," he said.
