Constitutional commission should discuss proposal on Crimean Tatar autonomy - Poroshenko

A constitutional commission will discuss proposals of the working group on the drafting of amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine on the Crimean Tatar autonomy, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.

"I do not see proposals from the working group. They have to be approved by the constitutional commission... I will appeal to the constitutional commission so that it holds a public discussion of proposals from the working group," Poroshenko said at a press conference "Challenges 2018" in Kyiv on Wednesday, when asked when the decision could be made to grant Crimea the status of the Crimean Tatar national autonomy.

"As soon as the final option is found, as I promised, the question of national or national-cultural autonomy, the introduction of changes to the constitution will be initiated before the Verkhovna Rada, and I very much hope that the Verkhovna Rada will support this proposal," he added.
