SAPO calls for removing Trukhanov as Odesa mayor, arresting his assets
The Special Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) has filed a court motion to relieve Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov of his duties during the pretrial investigation and to arrest his property, SAPO told the Kyiv-based Interfax-Ukraine news agency on Monday.
"These motions were sent to the court," SAPO said.
As earlier reported, agents of the National Anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), under SAPO's procedural supervision, notified Trukhanov February 13 about suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (embezzlement of property on a large-scale basis by abuse of office).
On February 14, NABU and SAPO agents detained Trukhanov and Deputy Mayor of Odesa Pavlo Vuhelman at Kyiv's Boryspil airport.
On February 15, Kyiv's Solomiansky District Court declined motions to set bail for Trukhanov at UAH 50 million and released him against the guarantees of Member of Parliament Dmytro Holubov (Petro Poroshenko Bloc's parliamentary faction). Vuhelman was released against the guarantees of Vidrodzhennia (Revival) Group MP Oleksandr Presman and Opposition Bloc MP Yuriy Miroshnychenko.
The court also set UAH 5.2 million bail for another suspect in their case, Petro Zahodirenko.
