Yanukovych asked Putin to use troops in Ukraine before publication of letter at UN - Turchynov

Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service reported to acting Ukrainian President Oleksandr Turchynov about the preparation of voting at the Russian Federation Council on the use of troops in Ukraine, as well as the sending of a respective appeal from former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to the Russian president, before it was made public at the UN.

"Head [of the Foreign Intelligence Service] Hvozd informed me that according to the information he received from his sources in the Russian Federation, the parliament's decision on the use of troops in Ukraine was being prepared for the 1st [of March]," Turchynov said as a witness in court in Kyiv on Thursday, February 15.

"He also said that according to his information there is Yanukovych's appeal on this matter," he added.

At the same time, Turchynov noted that Yanukovych learned about the contents of the letter when Russia's representative to the UN read out the text at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
