Unfortunately, we cannot declare war on such nuclear state as Russia – Turchynov

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, acting President of Ukraine from February 23 to June 7, 2014 Oleksandr Turchynov has said that Ukraine won't declare war on such a nuclear state as the Russian Federation.

"Ukraine today does not have weapons that can withstand such a nuclear state as Russia. That is why the declaration of war both in February-March 2014, and now, when we have a battle-worthy army, a defense-industrial complex, weapons sufficient to protect the country, we, unfortunately, cannot declare war on the aggressor," he said while testifying in court on the case of former President Viktor Yanukovych's state treason on Thursday.

Turchynov said that after consultations with the guarantor countries on the Budapest Memorandum of 1994 it became clear that they would not help Ukraine in military or military-technical terms, but only at the diplomatic level.
