Kyiv resident facilitated illegal legalization in Ukraine of five Russian citizens
Kyiv Prosecutor's Office has approved a notice of suspicion to a 40-year-old resident of Kyiv, who facilitated the illegal legalization in Ukraine of five Russian citizens who were placed on the international wanted list.
"It was established that Russian citizens who were placed on the international wanted list for committing grave and especially serious crimes appealed to the said citizen in order to obtain forged documents that would serve as grounds for acquiring Ukrainian citizenship, in particular, documents on the alleged residence in Ukraine of their relatives," the press service of the prosecutor's office reported.
The culprit contributed to the illegal legalization in Ukraine of five Russian citizens who were placed on the international wanted list, in particular, the ex-head of the unit for organizing material and technical support of the Russian Interior Ministry, an assistant to the deputy interior minister and other individuals.
The prosecutor's office described a criminal scheme. After receiving Ukrainian citizenship, Russian citizens, with the assistance of a suspect, made fictitious marriages with Ukrainian women. At the same time, in order to speed up the process of registering a marriage in the territorial offices of registry offices they provided fake certificates about the alleged pregnancy of these women. Later, within a month, the marriage was annulled, and the wanted persons had the surnames of fictitious wives.
"These actions made it virtually impossible to identify these individuals and gave them the right to freely cross the state border," the report says.
The actions of the suspect are qualified under Article 358 (forgery of documents) and Article 332 (illegal transfer of persons through the state border) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
In addition, investigators established and proved the involvement in the criminal scheme of an employee of a structural unit of the State Migration Service of Ukraine, who contributed to the illegal legalization of the wanted persons. By a court verdict, the official was found guilty under Article 366 (official forgery) and Part 5, Article 27, Article 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Materials about the possible involvement in the crime of other employees of the State Migration Service of Ukraine were included in a separate criminal proceeding.
