Government proposes parliament introduce military salute 'Glory to Ukraine – Glory to Heroes'

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has proposed that the Verkhovna Rada legislatively approve a salute for servicemen "Glory to Ukraine – Glory to Heroes."

The respective bill, No. 7549 of February 5, introducing amendments to certain laws of Ukraine on military service has been registered on the parliament's website.

"The person who handed a battle flag salutes the personnel of a military unit with the receipt of the battle flag with the words 'Glory to Ukraine.' The personnel of the military unit responds to the salute 'Glory to Heroes.' After that the commander of the military unit delivers a speech," according to the proposed amendments.

In addition, it is suggested that all servicemen standing in or out of the line reply "Glory to Heroes" to the chief or a person with a senior military rank saluting them "Glory to Ukraine." If the chief or a person with a senior military rank bids farewell, servicemen also respond to his words "Glory to Ukraine" with the words "Glory to Heroes." Thus, it is stipulated that these words will replace the current greeting "Hello Comrades" and the answer "Good Day, Sir."
