Rada refuses to abolish Donbas law

Ukrainian parliamentarians haven't supported the draft resolution on the abolition of the law on securing Ukraine's sovereignty in the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas, which had been adopted by the Verkhovna Rada, registered by representatives of the Opposition Bloc.

At the meeting on Tuesday, 37 parliamentarians out of 226 minimum required voted for the draft resolution on the cancellation of the Verkhovna Rada's decision dated January 18, 2018 on the adoption in general of the draft law "On the peculiarities of the state policy for securing the state sovereignty of Ukraine over the temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions" (No. 7163-P), an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported.

Now, according to the regulations of the Ukrainian parliament, the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada can sign the voted legislative initiative and the document can be sent for signature to the president of the country.

As reported, on January 18, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law "On the peculiarities of the state policy to ensure the state sovereignty of Ukraine in the temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions" and recognized the Russian Federation as an aggressor state. The next day representatives of the Opposition Bloc faction registered a draft resolution on the abolition of this law.

On January 22, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko promised to sign the law "On the peculiarities of the state policy on securing the state sovereignty of Ukraine in the temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions" immediately after the document is received from the Verkhovna Rada.
