U.S. to introduce new sanctions against Russia until it stops aggression in Donbas

Ukraine's ambassador to the U.S. Valeriy Chaly believes that Washington will impose new sanctions against the Russian Federation until Moscow withdraws its military forces from the occupied Donbas and restores Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

"We welcome "the Kremlin report" - a consolidated step both of the legislative branch of power - the Congress, and the executive branch - of the administration of the U.S. President Donald Trump on the implementation of sanctions. The explanation of the Treasury Department and the U.S. State Department clearly states that the law on countering U.S. adversaries through sanctions, where Russia is indicated, was adopted precisely because of Russian aggression against Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea, therefore, it is obvious that there will be further steps," 112.Ukraine TV channel quoted Chaly as saying.

In the ambassador's opinion, further specific sanctions will follow both with respect to individuals from both the above list and from additional ones.

At the same time, the diplomat noted that the change in Russia's approach consists in withdrawing troops from Ukrainian territory, returning all prisoners and detainees, closing the border with the help of an international mission - that is, "returning to a situation where Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity will be restored. Otherwise, not only sanctions, the whole package of measures will exert pressure on Russia."
