'Normandy format' FMs could meet during Munich conference

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Pavlov Klimkin does not rule out a meeting of the "Normandy format" (France, Germany, Russia, and Ukraine) foreign ministers on the sidelines of a security conference in Munich.

"Of course, we will talk about the release of our hostages and our political detainees. These are the very two issues that my last conversation with [Russian Foreign Minister Sergei] Mr. Lavrov focused on. We are talking about gathering in the 'Normandy format' on the ministerial level during the Munich security conference. Regrettably, there is not yet a clear vision as to what the results of such a meeting will be," Klimkin said at a press conference devoted to a review of Ukrainian diplomacy in 2017 and priorities for 2018 in Kyiv on Monday.

He also said that he will discuss this matter with his German counterpart Sigmar Gabriel later on Monday and with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on Tuesday.

Klimkin said he was not planning any contacts with Lavrov before the Munich conference. "But if necessary, we will of course get in touch," Klimkin said.

The 54th Munich security conference is due to be held on February 16-18, 2018.

The "Normandy Four" heads of state last met in Berlin on October 20, 2016, and the foreign ministers, on February 18, 2017.
