Poroshenko thanks Canada for new opportunities to improve Ukrainian army's defense potential

Ukraine is grateful to Canada for new opportunities to improve the defense potential of the Ukrainian army, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.

"I am very grateful for the inclusion of Ukraine on the list of countries that are allowed to supply defense weapons in coordination with the corresponding decision of U.S. President Donald Trump. This opens up new opportunities for us to improve defense potential of our army," Poroshenko said in a statement to the press in Lviv on Thursday after a meeting with Governor-General of Canada Julie Payette.

As reported, on December 13, Canada included Ukraine in the list of countries, which are exempted from the restriction on the sale of firearms, the European Truth online publication reported with reference to the official magazine of the Government of Canada.

This list (Automatic Firearms Country Control List) determines the countries, to which Canada's domestic producers are permitted to supply weapons.

On December 22, Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said Canada had not received any requests from Ukraine regarding sales of weapons.
